A plane carrying Vittorio Missoni, head of the fashion house Missoni, and his wife, Maurizia Castiglioni, went missing off the coast of Venezuela on Friday morning.
Missoni, his wife, and friends were vacationing on a resort in the Los Roques islands over Christmas and New Year’s, reports the New York Times, which is a popular tourist destination for Europeans. Their plane vanished following a fishing trip as it headed back to the airport in Caracas, only a half-hour away. The Missoni family was contacted by the Venezualan consulate about the missing plane and a search-and-rescue is currently taking place, including a naval search.
The UK’sTelegraph reports that a conspiracy theory is circulating that the plane may have been intercepted by Colombian drug smugglers.
