“She begged me, and she’s hard to say no to. I have a silly spot for cuteness.” So said Dustin Yellin, joking backstage before the Misha Nonoo SS15 show. The artist, best known for his beautiful sculptural paintings, collaborated with Nonoo to create prints for her new collection The result was a beautiful array of impressionist prints and loose, easy tailored pieces.
“I always wanted to make something I could wear or something a girlfriend could wear,” Yellin said. “I like to try new things, and this seemed like a new thing to try. It’s all about sensibility–you could die tomorrow. I think we share that sensibility of a fleeting existence. Hopefully all that matters is if it worked.”
Nonoo said that while she is often inspired by contemporary art, this is the first time she’s directly worked with a modern artist. She described the creative process for this collection as a “deep dive.”
“The details are oversized, the color palette has evolved, and we’ve refined classic silhouettes,” she said.
The cherry-on-top of the show was seeing Yellin take on the catwalk wearing pumps and a dress, sipping iced coffee along the way. Just another new thing to check off his bucket list.
