Though certainly we are immeasurably thankful for our health, if we had to consider the things we would be doing were we not under quarantine, one of them would absolutely be catching at least a couple of FKA twigs live dates. But, of course, her extensive worldwide tour has been put on hold for the time being (she was scheduled to be at San Diego’s Balboa Theatre tomorrow evening, April 21).
But wild genius like hers simply cannot be stifled. And so she has teamed up with Dazed Beauty for a series of stunningly surreal portraits, for the issue No. 7 of her AVANTgarden digizine titled Beauty of the Discarded. Poignantly referencing our current face-masked reality, found objects donated by the likes of Phoebe Waller Bridge, Christopher Kane, Courtney Love, Benny Blanco, Ed Marler, Daze Aghaji and Claire Barrow were turned into facial adornments to thought-provoking effect.
The “recycling” of the objects also speaks to the issues of sustainability and consumption—which, when this coronavirus crisis is at last behind us, will certainly come roaring back to the fore.
