Ever wonder how your treasured jewels are made? The necklace you wear everywhere but the shower, or the rings you slip on before heading out on the town. We asked Eddie Borgo to get super-specific on the how-it’s-made of his beloved beauties. In part two of three (see part one here) we witness the birth of the Gemstone Estate Bib Necklace. Estate-worthy, indeed.
The Gemstone Estate Bib Necklace combines all the different silhouettes — pyramid, cone, and cube — that we showed in the Pre Fall 2014 Collection. The placement of each section was engineered by my team with careful consideration for fit and feel.
At my studio, we use a computer assisted design program called Rhinoceros. It helps create a 3D rendering that lets us examine the functionality of a design. My team will translate my hand-sketches into 3D computer-generated models before we start manufacturing the samples.
Once the final sample arrives, we wear test each style and track how well the design performs at market. It’s gratifying to see our supporters experience a collection for the first time. When they recognize the craftsmanship that goes into each piece — especially one as intricate as the Gemstone Estate Bib Necklace — it is extremely rewarding.
