In certain circles at least, there seems to have been a noticeable turn away from the resignation of schlumping around the house in athleisure and bunny slippers, to considering fashion as the essential part of our self-expression it has always been. In other words, we want to get dressed up again—even if it’s just to meet up at a sidewalk table over a fizzy bottle of prosecco.
It helped, certainly, to have virtual Fashion Week beaming beautiful images onto our small screens over the past however many days (dates get a little hazy when you’re not actually showing up to these things in person). Celebs have even been doing “virtual front row” appearances, bless them. And now here comes Fendi unveiling this stunning new campaign for their Fall/Winter ’20/’21 women’s collection, giving us something to enthusiastically ooh and ah about.
Shot by exalted Brit photographer Nick Knight in his London studio (SHOWStudio), it features models Anok Yai, Maggie Chen and Yasmin Le Bon striking fiercely elegant poses against surreal, puffy pink structures that look somewhere between giant marshmallows and flamboyant pool floats. They also seem to be floating way up high in the sky, considering the bright blue peeking through from behind. (Watch the video clip of the campaign here.)
For the collection, Creative Director Silvia Venturini Fendi explores the fascinating dichotomies of la donna Fendi, wedding austerity and sensuality, and pastels with broodingly sexy greys and blacks. Also prominently featured are the whimsically monikered new Peekaboo ISeeU and Peekaboo ISeeU East West bags.
But really, it just feels good to be fabulous again.
