It’s rumored to be the most expensive film Netflix has ever made. And Bright, the $100 million+ dystopian crime drama directed by David Ayer (Suicide Squad) imagines a future world where human beings have been subjugated by a class of wealthy elves; Will Smith stars as a human cop, with Joel Edgerton playing his partner, an orc (considered an even lower class of beings.) It deals with relevant, poignant socio-political themes, but in a fantastical, sci-fi context.
The scale and importance of the project to the streaming network is perhaps best conveyed by the fuss being paid to its rather epic soundtrack, Bright: The Album. The single, “Home,” a high-profile collaboration between rapper Machine Gun Kelly, singer Bebe Rexha and rockers X Ambassadors, appeared last week; and today we have the first look at the accompanying, also directed by Ayer. It’s actually the third in the trilogy of Bright: The Videos, following Bastille’s “World Gone Mad” and Ty Dolla $ign & Future’s “Darkside” (featuring Kiiara).
There’s also a behind-the-scenes “making of” video, featuring all three artists.
Bright: The Album will be available December 15, while the film itself will debut on Netflix December 22.
