London’s whenyoung’s New Single ‘Future’ is Absolutely Shimmering Anglo Indie Pop

True Anglophiles will always have a soft spot for a certain manner of lush, enigmatic guitar pop – the sort that labels like Postcard and Creation made a veritable manifesto of.

To wit, London’s stylishly named new trio whenyoung, who are actually from Ireland – and indeed, their music does have a certain sonic quality that might conjure a vast, windswept Irish valley. Though their ethereal atmospherics do seem to be reaching for the very Heavens.

They first came to our attention in summer 2018, with a cover of countrymates The Cranberries’ classic “Dreams.” But the sublime, shimmering new single “Future” has struck a particular chord with our unshakeable Anglo-indie sensibilities, aesthetically landing somewhere between Orange Juice and Saint Etienne.

Their debut album Reasons to Dream will actually be released May 24 via Virgin EMI, and we’re counting the days. In the meantime, they’ll be touring the UK through May – perhaps the perfect excuse to make a springtime visit to Oxford, Liverpool or Dublin.
