Korean singer-model-actress Jihae has genuinely blown our minds a few times in the past, most especially with her 2010 rock opera Fire Burning Rain. Now she’s given us one more reason to be thankful on this Thanksgiving 2018 holiday: a striking cover of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars.”
The glam-era classic was always one of Bowie’s most elegant tracks, with his inner crooner in full flower. But Jihae reinvents it as some intersection of Euro cabaret tune and sultry soul ballad – complete with Depeche Mode style synth riffs. Pay particularly close attention starting at 3:20, where she really let’s fly with that gorgeous voice of hers.
Jihae will also be starring in Peter Jackson’s Mortal Engines, which just wrapped filming this summer in New Zealand, and is due in theaters December 14.
