BLACKBOOK PREMIERE: New Fever High Video for ‘Avec You’ is a Study in Euro-tastic Cool

They’re from Brooklyn, but Anna Nordeen and Reni Lane of Fever High seem as though you may have met them at some or other Paris Fashion Week party somewhere in the Marais. And in fact, their new single “Avec You” is indeed the product of the latter’s brokenhearted romp through the City of Lights last year.

“I’d recently been through a breakup and was in Paris soon afterwards,” Lane recalls. “I ended up having the time of my life there: making new friends, music, and memories for life. So the song was definitely inspired by those crazy Parisian adventures and the potential one night has to change your perspective on everything in life and love.”

(We can confirm: Paris will have that effect.)

The song itself, produced by Adam Schlesinger – whose band Ivy knows a thing or two about Francophilia – grooves along with impossibly cool aplomb (shades of early Bananarama), as the duo insouciantly intones, “There’s so much I want to do / Avec you.”

The Katie Hayden directed video, which BlackBook premieres here, is a pastiche of sensual but thought-provoking images, surely begging to be analyzed for historical artistic references. (Degas, peut-être?)

Says Nordeen, “Katie did a great job building off of the ballet references and the Franglais of the lyrics, by combining dance footage with a touch of retro French film vibe.”

Sufficiently inspired, we’ve already booked our next flight to Charles de Gaulle.
