Dance music blares through all the trendiest Miami nightspots – so it’s refreshing to hear some genuine rock & roll coming out of the scene. And indeed, Sean Wouters and Nico Espinosa, as Deaf Poets, have been making beautiful noise in the FLA capital of culture since 2014 – while also taking to the road with the likes of Best Coast and The Naked & Famous.
Their sexy, psychedelic garage rock combines the epic howl of Led Zep with the fierce anxiety of Smashing Pumpkins, all perfectly realized on the wicked new single “Celestine,” which BlackBook premieres here.
“It’s about a person whose outward image doesn’t match their inner persona, there’s a darker side to them that cannot be seen on the surface. We wanted to convey this not only in the lyrics but with the arrangement as well, as ‘Celestine’ goes from a heavy rhythm to a lighter tone during the chorus – which helps contrast the character.”
Don’t be afraid of the dark.
