Sephora

Only a genius could create an upscale drugstore that focuses solely on makeup, fragrances, and skincare products. Don’t be shy about testing classics like Chanel No. 5. Or Calvin Klein’s Obsession for men. The extremely neat space holds a deceptively large assortment of goodies. Like eye shadow, mascara, and foundation from major players including Dior and Smashbox. But makeup can be murder in the wrong hands. It’s worth the wait for face time with one of the helpful reps.

Brooks Brothers

Business, casual. Inventors of Gentleman Chic. Don’t mistake timeless for old-fashioned: wares are ever-in, running from swimwear to bespoke suits. Some stores offer in-house tailoring. If they do: go. These brothers know their own cuts like nobody else could. Helpful salespeople give the assist on navigating polished, warm spaces.

Oakley O Store

Eyewear for golfers, baseball players, snowboarders, and racecar drivers, although you don’t find many of the above hanging out in Times Square. Big tourist-central store rocks its own Oakley Custom bar, complete with onsite etching. Latest accessories debut here. Goggles, watches, footwear, and accessories also boost the logo. Stock up and go pro. Mullet optional.

Apple Store

This pantheon to all things Apple located in gargantuan Yorkdale mall attracts its fair share of gadget-loving metrosexuals, trendy teens and clueless parents struggling to keep up with their tech-savvy kids. Book an appointment for a little one-on-one tutoring or risk wading through the polite crowd of Apple-heads who assemble on weekends. Fortunately, the selection of tech toys and requisite accessories make window shopping worth the wait.

True Religion

Cult of west coast celeb followers, including Jessica Simpson and Miley Cyrus, save the brand a permanent spot in the weekly gossip rags. Booty-enlightening conspicuous horseshoe (or is it Buddha’s smile?) emblazoned on the butt promises you’ll be ready to ride horses, or at least take a stroll on Rodeo Drive.

Quiksilver

Holding down a prime Times Square corner until the midnight hour. Cali retailer keeps in touch with its coastal origins, with wave mural behind the cash register, surfboards on the ceiling. Wares tend to be beach-friendly as well: t-shirts, shorts, flop-flops, shades. Denim represented by QuikJeans. Roxy for the ladies. Also stocks a smattering of actual surfing supplies, should your next Rockaway run begin at 42nd Street.

Sunglass Hut

If there is indeed a fashion rulebook, it’s likely that rule #2 or #3 would reinforce the fact that accessories are key. Find the slightest glimmer of sun on the horizon and try to catch any self-respecting diva without a pair of designer shades to hide her face. Or any hipster sans Ray-Bans. Stock up on everything from Puma to this season’s Prada. You’ll see the world in a whole new light.
