Although RuPaul Charles has been a cultural staple since breaking out in the New York club scene of the ’80s, he’s finally received his due in recent years. Indeed, the 10th season of his competitive drag reality series, RuPaul’s Drag Race, recently finished with record ratings. He’s also writing, producing, and starring in an upcoming Netflix series, AJ and the Queen, and JJ Abrams is developing a Hulu series based on his life.
The drag icon is now adding daytime talk show host to his résumé, and is filming a talk show pilot for Telepictures, which is set to air in fall 2019. Featuring beauty advice, games, celebrity interviews, and general pop culture gossip, it will be filmed in front of a live studio audience. Friend and collaborator Michelle Visage is also expected to play a major role in the show.
This will not be Charles’ first role as talk show host. He hosted The RuPaul Show on VH1 from 1996-1998.
