You’ve been listening to Kari Kimmel for at least a decade…likely without knowing it. Indeed, the prolific songstress has had her musical creations appear in some of the biggest films and television shows of these last ten years, including World War Z, WALL-E, Pitch Perfect and The Vampire Diaries. Her songs have also been covered by the likes of Kesha, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato.
This week sees the release of the hilarious new Seth Rogen comedy Blockers – which will feature another new Kimmel track, the hopefully titled “Gold & Glitter.” To coincide with the film’s opening today, BlackBook premieres the track here (it will also appear on her new album of the same name, out May 25.)
The sonic majesty of the ethereal, chill-inducing track comes by way of haunted, widescreen strings and her pensive, brooding piano. Lyrically, she seems to be struggling between melancholy and hope, with the poignant mantra, “I don’t want to fall down again / And leave you here.”
“’Gold & Glitter’ was actually the first song that I wrote for the album,” she says. “I liked it so much that I decided to create an entire album around it. And the song wound up being the perfect fit for a scene in Blockers.”
The Gold & Glitter album is available for pre-order as of today.
