A prodigy to rival Mozart himself, Charlene Soraia first picked up the guitar at age 5, played her debut show at just 8, and by 23 had a platinum, top 10 UK hit with “Wherever You Will Go.”

Her third album, the intriguingly titled Where’s My Tribe (also the name of her last single), will be released January 25, 2019 via Peacefrog Records. And she seems particularly poised to capture Stateside hearts, as well, with her poignant, increasingly accomplished Americana-influenced contemporary folk sounds.

Leading up to the record, she’s just delivered a piercingly melancholy new single, “Now You Are With Her” – the heartrending video for which BlackBook premieres here. Recalling Mazzy Star’s raw, haunted blues, but with all the iconoclastic passion of Jeff Buckley, it finds Soraia in unflinchingly soul baring form, as she lyrically professes, “It’s you I’ve turned to, when the world gets me down / Who am I going to turn to / now you ain’t around?”

She confesses, “I had spent a long hiatus with little human contact, zero trust, and not much experience of human kindness. So I suppose looking back, I had merely mistook someone’s kindness for something more meaningful.”

Alas, if you wish to share in that melancholy up close, you’ll have to cross the Pond – as she plays a pair of November shows in Totnes and Glastonbury. We strenuously recommend doing so.
