Though her stunning, Olmos-produced debut single “Sirens” was released just this past February, sultry young songstress YUMI would seem to have her trajectory laid out clearly before her. A compellingly beautiful plus-size model (signed to Wilhelmina), she is a strikingly ethereal presence, to say the least.

She is also possessed of head-turning musical talent, with a chill-inducingly soulful voice, and a poignant way with lyrical storytelling. This is especially evident on the intimate new acoustic version of “Sirens,” and its accompanying video – which BlackBook premieres here.

“I just wonder how we don’t know how we got here / You and I spoke too soon / Still don’t know who we are,” she confesses in her uniquely alluring style of vocal delivery.

“What I like most about performing this song acoustic,” she explains, “is that it showcases the raw emotion and sadness that the song was originally written with.”

Yumi is signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak, and an EP is expected later this year. But look for her next single, the intriguingly titled “Ego Boost,” out June 22nd on the label.
