If there’s ever been a strong contender for a superhero jumping in and saving us all from the mess that has been the world since Trump began running for office, it’s Laura Dern’s new character in the upcoming Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Dern, whose role we had absolutely no info on until Vanity Fair‘s new cover story, will play Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (Amabella’s great ancestor?). Holdo is a Resistance general and wears a flowy pink ensemble complete with pink hair. Consider us ready for rescue:
For writer-director @RianCJohnson, it was surprising how much leeway he was given to cook up the action of #TheLastJedi from scratch: “The pre-set was Episode VII, and that was kind of it.” Among his inventions for the latest #StarWars saga? A new world called Canto Bight (“a playground, basically, for rich assholes”) and three significant new characters—including Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo. We learned a lot of other great things from the Star Wars special issue of Vanity Fair, out on stands today. Benicio Del Toro will play DJ, a “shifty” character previously unseen in the Star Wars world. And Billie Lourd, Carrie Fisher’s daughter, will play Lieutenant Kaydel Connix.
Perhaps most exciting is the announcement of a new world in the universe, created by writer/ director Rian Johnson, called Canto Bight. It’s a casino-y world and ““a playground, basically, for rich assholes,” Johnson said in the Vanity Fair cover story. And the outfits!
