ROBERT2 Columbus Cir New York NY10019
For a high-design night of romance, head to Robert on your next date or anniversary celebration. Approach from Columbus Circle to get a feel for the energy of the location. Above you, nine stories up, you’ll see a glowing aerie. Take the elevator to the top of the Museum of Arts & Design and you’ll find the institution’s creativity overflows into this penthouse restaurant. Lucite planks dangle overhead as conversation starters, but they’ll be trumped by the view. Nestle in at a table with your loved one and try not to gape as the trees of Central Park stretch off into the distance, right next to the hustle of avenue traffic. An attentive server stops by with a menu full of Nouveau American temptations. This is a night meant to share, so split some Blue Bay mussels with chorizo, or seared foie gras with roasted quince. The artistry of the surroundings is reflected in creative plates like duck breast with sour cherries, or lamb loin and polenta. Pay your respects to Central Park architect Frederick Law Olmsted by raising a namesake cocktail of gin, thyme, sage, and honey. By now the buzz of the room is catching up with the glamour of the landscape. Live music, jazz maybe, or solo piano, adds atmosphere, but at this point in the night each other’s company is all you need.
