It’s going to be a busy week—as we all have mostly recovered from the holidays and the season premier of Girls and that Polar Vortex thing. It’s 10 times warmer than it was, yikes! Tomorrow night you will find me at the opening of Project 1919, a speak easy pop up located inside Mulberry Project 149 Mulberry Street. It’s specialty cocktails and music and all that, and will get my vote. 1919 is the year they started prohibition and all the fun started.
Speaking of Girls that indeed was club DJ, performance artist, actor, bon vivant and all around good guy Michael Cavadias in the rehab scenes. He was sitting next to Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth. The show is a wonderful glimpse and caricature of life as I know it in Brooklyn, NY. I know I’m being silly, but I just love it.
I’ll be headed to 149 Mulberry after I get a tattoo (courtesy of Sailor Jerry Rum.) This would be the 103rd birthday of that old curmudgeon Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins. The event will be at 169 East Broadway, which was a real divey Chinatown spot, but I am told is the very cool Charles Hanson’s 169 Soul Jazz Oyster Bar. Three Kings Tattoo, where I get a lot of my work done will do 103 Sailor Jerry “Swallow” Tattoos starting at 2pm till Midnight.
