Not that you need to read another Arcade Fire post after their big Grammy win, but their story is truly Cinderella material. I remember seeing them a few years back on Randall’s Island, and even though they were headlining the concert, the whole time I was thinking to myself, “How the eff are they not any bigger than they already are?” Anyway, New York City musicians have the chance to ride that Arcade Fire train and get a boost to worldwide fame with Gem hotels.
The hotel chain is bringing back the Rooms for Tunes program, in which they will select super lucky local musicians—via contest—to have their music played on the hotel’s lobby playlist.
What’s really cool about this program is that it’s not exactly a contest. It’s more about supporting and embracing the local music scene here in NYC. Also, technically, there’s no one winner. Gem hotels will select a handful of noteworthy artists, and will even throw in a free one-night stay at one of their venues (Chelsea, Midtown West, Soho). Participants just need to drop off their CD at any Gem hotel, or submit their songs via e-mail. Judging is now through March 31, 2011, and the selected artists will be notified by April 30, 2011. Better get working on that demo!
