Better known for their work on the New Museum, Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa of Tokyo architecture firm Sanaa were comissioned for Derek Lam’s first brick-and-mortar boutique. Having been friends with Lam for years (Kazuyo was one of Lam’s first customers), the duo knew the designer’s aesthetic well. The 2,800-square-foot boutique features four transparent curved walls, which display the full range of Lam products. Bathed in warm light from both the large windows at front and fitting rooms closed off with gold fabric in back. Chic, unfussy atmosphere captures Lam’s reputation for easy, modern luxury.
