Lou Reed was a seminal force. A proto-punk proselytizer. An icon and an iconoclast. And on Wednesday, March 5th at 8pm, The Way Station will celebrate his life and music with our Lou Reed Birthday Tribute. Come down and hear seven bands re-imagine the music of Lou Reed as we pay tribute to a truly innovative New York artist.
8pm- Michael Pennacchio is a Singer/Songwriter based out of Brooklyn, New York. Michael captures his audience with a unique brand of story-telling and memorable melodies that will stay with you well after the show is over. The music breaks genre barriers yet has an aesthetic of artists such as Elliot Smith and Lou Reed. His new 5 Song EP “Better In The Morning,” will be available for sale.
8:30pm- Drum the Jaguar is named after a 3 year-olds stuffed animal, Drum the Jaguar is currently performing as a duo with Jeff Coyle on vocals/guitar and David Gaynes, on drums. The band tells stories of redemption and sings dysthymic love songs which are underlined by sweet and uncomplicated melodies. The band is heavily influenced by the heroes of indie music, classic rock and new wave. In 2010, Drum the Jaguar recorded their album, “Beauty” which is available on CD.
9pm- Prewar Yardsale is lofi New York City Antifolk. Beat up acoustic guitars, buckets, tin cans, broken casios and distortion pedals provide the sonic drop for the lyrics cribbed for songs of breaking up, partying, sickness, disease, and your record collection. They have a new Major Matt produced EP up on bandcamp that captures the band during some raw sessions ant Emandee and Olivejuice studios.
9:30pm- The Planes In a big, dirty city full of trend-chasers and bandwagon-riders, The Planes stand up for the things that are, refreshingly, always cool and relevant and fun. Three-minute pop songs. Analog recording equipment. 10pm- Perp Walk After talking a lot about their favorite music over the years, NY1 News Reporter and drummer Roger Clark and co-worker/bass player Bunny got together at a Greenpoint Rehearsal Studio in the summer of 2012 and decided to jam. They had a real blast, which turned into the hard rocking, comedic duo Perp Walk. Their original songs are based on crazy incidents, offbeat people, and animals encountered on their permanent tour of the world.
10:30pm- Even Twice, Brooklyn’s premiere Prog/Punk duo have been on the NYC music scene since 2011. Combining elements of hard rock/psychedelic and prog rock with a punk energy, Even Twice have also made inroads in Manhattan, Boston, and will be touring this summer promoting their upcoming CD.
