Spring 2010 ads are pouring out. From Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana to YSL, while the models and sets may change, one thing seems to be the same: an emphasis on handbags. In Versace‘s new ad campaign starring Georgia May Jagger, a printed, oversized black leather bag is front and center, garnering as much attention as the model’s iconic gap teeth. Yves Saint Laurent’s latest, on the other hand, stars Natalia Vodianova and is shot by Inez & Vinoodh. In YSL’s case there’s a brown sac begging for as much attention as Vodianova’s puffed-up, over-plumped sleeves.
The likes of Mulberry and Marc by Marc have followed suit, not leaving accessories behind when highlighting the brand’s latest wares. In times of shoppers cutting back en masse, highlighting accessories (which can be worn over and over again, and tend to offer a piece of the brand pie without the price tag of a full outfit) seems as safe a bet as any.
