For nine seasons Ecco Domani has been supporting fledgling designers via its Fashion Foundation Awards. Come New York Fashion Week the wine purveyors are giving $25,000 to four different designers for their fashion week presentations. “In the women’s design category, this year’s award recipients are Prabal Gurung, Joseph Altuzarra of Altuzarra, Ross Menuez of Salvor Projects and Phillipe Rollano and David Trujillo of The Blonds,” reports WWD.
Other recipients include: “the men’s design winner is Siki Im, while Irina Arakas of Prova will pick up the award for accessories and John Patrick of Organic for sustainable design.” The slew of designers is noteworthy for a few reasons. First off Joseph Altuzarra and Prabal Gurung have been paid numerous accolades and garnered quite a bit of critical acclaim; meaning, they’re no big surprise. But, what’s especially unexpected is Ross Menuez of Salvor Projects putting on a presentation (the design center with a Spring Street outpost hasn’t, in my recollection, ever shown at NYFW before). Meanwhile, rest assured winners Siki Im, Prova and The Blonds are bona fide brands to watch. And, whether or not you make it to the aforementioned designers’ shows come February, you’ll have a shot at catching all of the excitement from your couch as well: “For the first time, the winning designers will also participate in a group EDFF runway show, which is scheduled for Feb. 15 at the tents in Bryant Park,” says WWD. “The show will be included in a documentary about the foundation and the winners, which is slated to air on the Lifetime Network and Lifetime Real Women this March.”
