Jeffrey Dahmer is one of the most notorious serial killers of our time. Having murdered at least 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, his killing spree has been widely documented. But few people know the story of his life before he killed.
In My Friend Dahmer, Marc Meyers directs ex-Disney star Ross Lynch in a chilling performance as an adolescent version of the titular character. Based on Derf Backderf’s graphic novel of the same name and filmed at the actual high school Dahmer attended, the movie depicts a teenage Dahmer going through the usual motions like parental spats, sexual frustration, and loneliness. But beneath the surface, a dangerous, death-obsessed personality is ready to emerge.
Harking back to his real high school friendship with Dahmer, a young Backderf is portrayed by the talented Alex Wolff. But it’s Lynch’s star-making performance as the young Dahmer that almost demands a sense of empathy from its audience. Anne Heche, Vincent Kartheiser and Dallas Roberts also provide phenomenal supporting performances.
My Friend Dahmer premieres November 3 in the US. Watch the trailer below.
